First under Col. Richard Richardson (his father). 1776, a Captain in SC 6th Regiment. Promoted to Major, transferred to the SC 2nd Regiment. POW at the Fall of Charleston, paroled. Exchanged in Oct. 1780, and took the reins of his regiment in Marion's Brigade. His regiment was sometimes known as Richardson's Regiment. He recruited many men from the Williamsburg Township in the Georgetown District.
