Captain of the Beaufort Volunteer Artillery Company under Col. Stephen Bull. Commanded Fort Lyttleton from Feb. 1776 until April 1777. One source asserts that this unit was pulled into the SC 4th Regiment on Oct. 18, 1776. In 1779, a Lt. Colonel at Siege of Savannah. 1780, a Lt. Colonel commanding Upper Granville County Regiment. 1781, promoted to Colonel, attached to Marion's Brigade, to operate between Charleston and Savannah.
